It is known that genetics and environmental factors (e.g. substrate types, stiffness, topography) could affect the mechanical features of cells. Here, we investigate the dynamic assembly/disassembly of adhesion proteins, cellular architectures (F-actins/microtubules) and cell migration as well as the force generated by cells in the presence of nanoparticles. Using cutting edge tools such as fluorescence confocal imaging, traction force microscopy and a quartz crystal microbalance, we are measuring the strength of cell adhesion and the traction force cells exert on a substrate.
