Marc Pauchard is associate director at the Adolphe Merkle Institute (AMI). As a member of the executive board, he is also responsible for management and development of the central services of the Institute. In his role as the person responsible for Knowledge and Technology Transfer, he is working at the interface between first class AMI researchers and interested partners from industry, with the goal of helping to foster innovation and to find win-win situations between both partners.
He was educated as a Chemist at the Universities of Fribourg (Switzerland) and Berne (Switzerland). Afterwards he worked with Alan J. Heeger at the University of California Santa Barbara (CA, USA) for two years.
During this time, Marc's research was focused on organic/ inorganic optical and opto-electronic materials, such as energy transfer zeolite particles, light-emitting electrochemical cells and electroluminescent semiconducting polymers.
He then worked in industry for several years, where he headed the research section “New Technology”, which was devoted to the development of flexible optical thin film products for emerging markets, like LED illumination and flexible electronics.
This experience sparked his interest in business development, innovation management and all associated questions regarding "open innovation" and technology transfer.
Marc played a leading role in the creation and development of TechTransfer Fribourg, the Nanotechnologie Netzwerk and the Innovation Club.
He is actively involved in many initiatives involving the promotion of innovation (member of the board of SeedCapital Foundation, member of the jury of Innovations Preis Freiburg, program responsible of SATW Transfer Kolleg 2013).
