Vera enrolled at the University of Innsbruck, Austria, in 2003 to study Pharmacy. In her Master thesis she focused on phytochemical processing of Epimedii herba to reveal virtually predicted Smac/DIABLO-mimetics. During an internship at the R&D of Hoffmann-La Roche in Basel, Switzerland, in 2007 she got her first impressions of Nanotechnology, an experience that first prompted her interest in this multidisciplinary field. Vera graduated in 2008 and obtained her Pharmacist`s Certificate in 2009. In 2010 she started her PhD. In the BioNanomaterials group of Prof. Alke Fink and Prof. Barbara Rothen-Ruthishauser, she investigates how nanoparticles interact with biological fluids and how this subsequently influences cellular responses towards these constituents.
